Lake Placid, N.Y., February 12, 1980: Dave Silk of the U.S. is mobbed by his teammates after he scored a second-period goal to even the score at 1-1 in an opening-round game against Sweden at the 1980 Olympics. Not in the mood to celebrate is Sweden's goalie, Pelle Lindbergh, at left. The game ended up in a 2-2 tie, which was considered a moral victory for a young U.S. team that was considered a long shot for a medal. But the Americans went on to beat the heavily-favored Soviet Union in the "Miracle on Ice" game, then won the gold medal in a rematch with the Swedes.
