Innsbruck, Austria, February 8, 1964: Jimmie
Heuga of the United States races to a
third-place finish in the slalom race at the Olympic Games. The medals won by
Heuga and silver medalist Billy Kidd in the race were the first ever for U.S.
skiers in the Olympic alpine events. Heuga, who spent four decades battling
multiple sclerosis while helping others cope with the disease, died February 8,
2010, at age 66.
